  Course Format: Lectures with class discussions. Classes begin promptly at 11:00 AM. Class attendance and participation is required. Students are required to read all assignments prior to class and to participate in the class discussions, as noted below.
 
 
  Course Grading: 1. Attendance = 10 points. Unexcused absences cost 0.5 points per absence.
 
  2. Class Discussions = 10 points. Class discussions will involve the assigned readings. Questions for discussion each lecture will be on the class web site. Students are required to read the assigned material for each lecture and prepare answers to the questions. Students will be selected at random to lead the discussion of each question during the lecture and will be graded for their answer and participation. Unexcused absences will result in “0” points.  
    3. Two mid-term exams, each worth 25 points. No makeups for exams, excused absences will receive same grade as final exam.  
    4. Final exam worth 30 points.

The final grade will be based on total points as follows:

   
A =   93–100
A-  90–92.9
B+ =   87–89.9
B =   83–86.9
B- =   80–82.9
C+ =   77–79.9
C =   73–76.9
C- =   70–72.9
D+ =   67–69.9
D =   60–66.9
F =   < 60
