McAfee VShield version 8.0i setup instructions.

The ideal method for installing the McAfee software is to have a CD or be able to map directly to the share on the server. If  the only way you can get the software is from a zip file, you will want to copy the zip file to a temporary directory such as C:\TEMP and extract the files into that temporary directory before you run the Setup program. The ZIP file is VSE80iLEN.zip for Windows 2000, and Windows XP. You should uninstall any previous versions of VirusScan before you install version 8.0i.

Once you have connected to a source for the software you will then run the setup.exe file to install the software. Once the software is installed you will want to configure it. Then you will want to set it up for automatic scheduled updates. Please note that these screen captures were done using a Windows XP Professional  based PC. Your dialog boxes may differ with other operating systems.

Click Start Run and enter the text at the right in the Open box , then press OK. Then double click on Setup.exe.

Read the product information then click Next. You will need to buy a new license in two years.

Select 2 Year Subscription under License expiry type: then click I agree to the terms of the license agreement and click Next.
Select Typical and accept the default Install To location then click Next.

Press Install to continue.

Wait until the Next window appears to continue.

Leave Update Now selected uncheck Run On-Demand Scan (You can run this later.) then click Finish.

You will get the Update in Progress window. Click Close once it has completed updating your software.

Once the software is installed you will want to configure it with your personal preferences. To get this window right click on the Virus Shield icon in the system tray and select On-Access Scan Properties.

The default settings should work fine. Please feel free to customize the settings to your liking.

Next you will want to set up automatic scheduling for updates . Go to Start Programs then Network Associates then choose  VirusScan Console. You will get the following window.

Double Click on AutoUpdate.

You will get this window.  Then click on the Schedule button.
Enter your MSU domain account that has access to the share \\software\mcafee . If you leave the fields blank it will use your logged on account. Then click on the Schedule Tab.

Set your computer to update Daily at a time that the computer is on and will not impact your work. Click OK which will bring you back to the previous window.

Click Update Now. Then click OK
The window that opens will show the progress of your update.
If you right click the virus icon in the system tray and choose About you will get information on the status of your software.
